St Mary’s church in Hay-on-Wyes, Hereford are raising funds for a new church boiler. Nothing new there we hear you say, but it’s the way in which they are raising the funds which has caught our attention. They have listed the help of Radoslav Kvapil – one of the world’s top Czech pianists, all the way from the The Czech Republic. This celebrity guest appearance from one of the most formidable classical musicians in the world is a huge deal, and his performance is sure to bring in a huge audience, all wanting to catch a rare glimpse of this musical celebrity.

So how did this happen? Well, it just so happens that a Mr Richard Williams resides on the church committee, and by sheer luck, his best friend is none other than Radoslav. They have been friends for over 40 years, and when Richard spoke of his plight to raise £30,000 for their church heating system, the pianist was all too eager to help.

The 160 seat capacity venue is expected to be a complete sell out, so be sure to get your tickets early. Admission will all go towards the goal, and other fundraising activities will be taking place to hopefully reach the target of the £30,000 they need for their church heating system.

The existing church boiler is outdated and in serious need of replacement, even at full whack it can only reach a measly 15 degrees C, which as we all know is no where near the comfortable level needed in a church, especially as the days are getting shorter, and the nights are getting colder. The aim is to get everything sorted in time for winter, and with December drawing ever closer, it’s imperative that the funding goal is reached.

St Mary’s is well known for its fabulous acoustic quality, so a live performance on such an intimate setting promises to be a magical occasion.
