Wiltshire Church receives a Care of Churches Award

St Mary’s church in Calne has picked up the Care of Churches award from the Diocese or Salisbury just as their brand new heating system nears completion. The £250,000 church heating system was heaven sent, as the existing 150 year old system (yes, 150 years old!) packed in over a year ago, and a second harsh winter forced drastic action.

Salisbury Diocese awards a parish church each year who have demonstrated exceptional work on the building to maintain and improve the church, and St Mary’s was a lucky one of only five churches from over 450 to win the coveted award.

The church has done an amazing job in raising a quarter of a million pounds to install a brand new church heating system, and it has taken a lot of hard work from both staff and the community, and it seems all their hard work has paid off, with extra recognition of that hard work in the form of the award from the Diocese.

A special service of celebration is planned, to thank all of the individuals that have made this possible. There will be a special performance from the choir, as well as a visit from Ruth Worsley, who is the Archdeacon of Wiltshire.
