Church Heating Help
1. The boiler is on, but the radiators aren’t heating up
There may be a problem with the pipes, check for a leaks anywhere throughout the building, it may need to be pressure tested. There could also be a build-up in the pipe work, a power flush would fix this problem. The water circulation pump may be at fault, this would need looking at by a church heating engineer. The radiators may need bleeding – air trapped in the system prevents the hot water from circulating efficiently.
2. The boiler wont turn on manually
Is the light on? There may be a problem with the power supply, check the connection to the mains, check the main breaker and the fuse box. Is the pilot light out? It may simply need re-lighting.
3. The radiators don’t get hot enough
If there is heat getting to the radiators, but the temperature is very low, check the valve on the radiator, make sure it’s turned up to the maximum. There could be a problem with the boiler, not heating the water up enough, get it checked out by a church heating specialist.
4. There is a lot of noise coming from the church boiler and pipes
This could be potentially a very serious problem, most likely it will trace back to the boiler, or the water circulation pump, these need to be looked at as soon as possible to avoid any further damage, or even worse, a large scale water leak.
5. The church heating system is completely dead
If the power supply has been checked and there are no connection issues, the boiler may simply have reached the end of its life. Sometime components like the motherboard or other circuity might fail, and if it’s a relatively new church boiler, these can be replaced quite easily by an engineer. If it’s an older boiler however, the parts may not be readily available, and you’ll need a new boiler.
6. The radiators and pipes get too hot
Check the thermostat to make sure it’s not turned up too high, as well as the valves on each radiator. Also check to see the master temperature setting on the boiler it’s self. There may be a problem with the thermo coupling inside the boiler which measures the room temperature and adjusts the heat accordingly.
7. The heating system seems to be working fine, but the rooms don’t get warm enough
Check that there is nowhere for the heat to escape from. Poor insulation, cracks in windows, gaps in door frames and many other elements can contribute to heat being lost. Ensuring maximum insulation will reduce heating costs, and keep rooms warmer for longer.
