Menston Methodist Church, Leeds
The Challange
Menston church first contacted the church heating specialist to look at ways to reduce the overall running cost of the church heating system. On the visit to the church it was noted that the church heating system would of benefited from a number of key money saving points. The old church boiler was in much need of a replacement and was costing a lot of money to run. The church pipes were un-lagged and loosing a lot of heat in the boiler room. The system as a whole was in good condition and the choice was made to retain all the church pipes and just complete a full power flush and chemical clean, All of which was then connected to a church filter system keeping the water clean and clear all year round.
The Solution
The main church looked at insulating all the roof space but this was not possible so we installed a pair of sweep fans. The fans allowed the church to re-use any trapped heat stuck in the roof space and reduce the running cost either further. Once the contract was awarded to the UKs number one church heating specialist, work began by breaking down the old boilers and installing a pair of wall hung condensing boilers split onto twin zones. The boilers allowed more storage space in the boiler room and prevent any future possible flood damage. The existing Grunfoss pump was re-used as this was only replaced 6 month earlier and connected onto the return pipe to speed up the church warm up times. A filter system was also added to the new church boilers and heat loss prevention was made across all the exposed pipe work. A couple of new fans was fitted in the main church and all was connected to a new user friendly timer and thermostat control.
The whole church heating system was completed during out of hours through a night shift as this busy little church in Leeds is used every day.
