Carters Lane Baptist Church, Birmingham

The Challange

Carters Lane Baptist Church Birmingham contacted Church Heating Specialists for advice on how much their existing heating system was costing them to run. After looking at the church system it was clear that the previous engineers had overlooked the specific volumes of water needed for a boiler upgrade along with a number of other faults. All the church flow and return pipes were installed in small bore pipes alone with a small domestic size pump and zone valve. All the boiler room pipework needed upgrading but thankfully for the church, the boiler had been correctly sized.

The Solution

The church heating system was cleaned through via a power flush machine and chemicals were inserted to help break down the oxide in the pipes. We added a filter to the boiler system to prevent any more build-up and to allow for the system to flow correctly. The header tank was removed and a new pressure vessel was installed to help keep the church heating system clean and tidy. The main church area was well heated but was losing a vast amount of heat through the uninsulated roof space. Slow spinning fans were installed to help prevent heat loss and will also help with air movement during the summer months. All were connected to a new user-friendly timer and thermostat control which was re-positioned in the vestry room. This now allowed the wardens to adjust the timers when needed without going into the dirty and damp boiler room.

Feedback

“ Amazed at the knowledge of you guys. So glad we asked for your advise and once it was all explained to us it was easy to see why the system was costing so much”.
