St Lukes Church, Ironbridge, Shropshire
The spectacular St. Lukes Chuch in Ironside, which is located in leafy Shropshire, require a complete heating system replacement. Our specialist church heating engineers were called into action.
The building, erected in 1835/6, has a tower, a nave, side aisles and a small sanctuary. The tower contains a three dial clock, placed there by public subscription in 1838 and made by W. Davies of Shifnal. The position of Ironbridge church is the reverse of the majority of churches, the sanctuary being at the west end and the tower at the east end. This is due to the fact that it was discovered that the land at the west end would not bear the weight of a tower.
When our engineers first arrived to give their initial assessment, the church was being heated by a number of balanced flue heaters that were installed around the church. After years of keeping the congregation warm the heaters one by one started to fail and this left the church with less and less numbers turning up on a Sunday morning in cold conditions.
The church was working on a tight budget and didn’t want to go through all the faculty issues of installing a full new church heating system. The decision was made to remove the existing gas heaters and to replace them with new more efficient heaters.
The external works didn’t need any extra works as the new heaters would fit direct onto the old heater flue. The church heaters was removed and replaced by 8 new units taking there heat from a current 64kw to 80kw.
The church now has a well balanced warm heating system again just leaving the church with the task of washing down the current stained walls. The new church heating system took just 2 days to complete and was ready for the weekend service.
Church warden David: “Thanks for all the advice and knowing all about what can and can’t be done within our church. The knowledge of your visiting engineer was next to non. God bless”
