St. Paul’s Church, Kingston upon Thames, London

Having recently completed a church heating project at St Mell’s in London, our engineers were recommend to St Paul’s Church in Kingston Upon Thames, who were experiencing similar issues with their heating system.

St Paul’s wanted to know how they could reduce the running cost of their heating, so after carrying out the initial inspection, our church heating engineers found that the boilers had come to the end of their life, and that the current the system was not zoned, meaning they could not heat small areas of the church as and when needed. It was also discovered that the heat emitters were under-sized, and they struggled to heat the Nave area.

After compiling a full report and heating design specification, our engineers were able to present 3 options with regards a heating system upgrade, and a decision was made based on a number of factors. Our engineers meet with the church architect and discussed the heating proposal, and all was in agreement this was the best solution, pending faculty approval.

A heating plan was put together showing new pipe runs, boiler and flue routes, along with a full heating spec. Once the agreement was completed, we began to install new twin wall-hung boilers in the old church boiler room and spilt the heating system into 3 areas. The church now had independent heating on the main hall, narthex area and the meeting rooms, with instant heat available as and when they needed it.

New fan assisted radiators were installed along the side walls and some of the existing radiators from in the church was added into the Narthex to give extra heating output. Everything was then connected to a new smart control heating system which allowed the church office to control the new system from their own area, or even at home if needed.

The work was completed in just 5 days using 6 heating engineers and 1 electrical engineer.

Office manager Karen: “All your men worked so hard and respected the church fabric and its members fantastically. Thank you to all those involved”
