Worcester church secures heating grant

To celebrate the the work that has been completed at St Swithun’s church in Worcester that they managed to achieve due to their church heating grant, they have held an open day for the congregation, visitors and the local community.

A large amount of work has been completed, including vital structural repairs, as well as a brand new church heating system. This has all been thanks to a hugely generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, which provided a cash injection of £200,000. Work is now underway to conserve the church as a an arts venue.

The building is a beautiful 1700’s Georgian structure, and even has the remains of a Tudor tower, which dates back to the early 15th century. The problem with any old building is that it eventually succumbs to the elements, and if it is not meticulously maintained, there will inevitably be problems.

With the church heating grant, St Swithuns has been given a new lease of life, and with further funding of £2million, further regeneration to create a fantastic arts space can be made a reality. The open day gives visitors an opportunity to see how the building will be transformed.

There will be a whole host of sensory delights for the local community and visitors alike to enjoy, with various exhibitions from stone carving to music, crafts and workshops, with an expected turnout of over 500 people.
